DESCRIPTION OF REGION
Geography
The Zlin region (NUTS3-CZ072) is frontier region with both agriculture and industrial tradition and its location and characteristics predestinates the region to considerable utilisation of local sources of renewable energy, above all biomass energy, solar energy and hydro energy. The east part of the region includes highland covered by woods. The west part is formed mainly by plains with intensive agriculture. Generally, the region lies on the confines between ocean and continental climate. South part is more sunny with famous vineyards, and north-east part is more chilli and rainy.
Economy
In the Zlín region there is a light industry, mostly consisted of SMEs. Larger (chemical) industry is located in Otrokovice and in Valašské Meziříčí. Most of the consumed electricity is imported from other parts of the Czech republic. District heating systems utilizing coal, natural gas or biomass are built in several towns and villages. The tourism is focused on the nature, large protected areas, historical landmarks and local traditions - the region consists of three historically different ethnographic regions.

BASICS ABOUT ENERGY IN THE REGION
More informations on /www.kr-zlinsky.cz/ and www.eazk.cz
The Energy plan of the Zlin region, a part of the Conception, is stemming from the National energy conception with two main objectives: reduce of 20 % green house emission and increase the share of renewable energy sources to 13 % of total energy production by 2020 in the whole Czech Republic. Furthermore, the Energy plan has been used as a base for creation municipal energy conceptions and ground plans.
Good Practice Examples
Village of Hostětín is well-known small municipality carrying several projects focused on reducing of energy demand (GHG emission) and sustainable use of local resources. The district heating system with biomass boiler (woodchips from local sources) has been operated by the municipality since 2000. Individual solar systems for hot water preparation have been installed since 1997 and two small photovoltaic power plants were installed in 2008 and 2009. The building of the Centre Veronica, premises of local NGO, is built in passive standard. Public lighting system is equipped with modern energy savings light sources emitting no luminous smog. The village has its own ecological and natural waste treatment plant.
The system of automatic imission monitoring (AIM) in Zlin
The system of AIM has been built in Zlin city since 1992. Nowadays, the system of imission monitoring in the City of Zlin consists of three automatic stations equipped with information panels. These panels inform citizens about immision situation in real time. Furthermore, the internet interface provides information about actual situation on all stations and the day graphs (up to one year back).
